Dr. Andy Fourie

Dr. Andy Fourie is a Winthrop Professor and Head of the School of Civil & Resource Engineering at the University of Western Australia in Perth, Australia.

Qualifications:

BSc(Eng) and MSc(Eng), both from University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, 1978 and 1980 PhD (Geotechnical Engineering), Imperial College, London, 1984.

Areas of expertise: Geotechnical engineering, specialising in management of mining, industrial and municipal solid waste.

Co-edited two books on Paste & Thickened Tailings (produced by ACG), and co-editor of annual seminar proceedings on P&TT, as well as annual Mine Closure seminar proceedings.

Project experience: Tailings storage facilities: design and operational experience, specialist reviewer for projects in South Africa, Namibia, Mocambique, Tanzania, Mali, Ghana, Australia, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Philipines, Canada, Chile and Peru.

Numerous undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience; Continuing Professional Development courses taught through University of Witwatersrand, South Africa; University of Western Australia, Australian Centre for Geomechanics and Colorado School of Mines.
