Ramon Aravena is Chilean and a professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Dr. Aravena has over 20 years of experience in the application of isotope hydrogeology and geochemical techniques. He teaches courses on isotope hydrology and geochemistry for the graduate program at the Unviersity of Waterloo and has also taught courses in several Latin American countries in training programs organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the National Ground Water Association’s educational programs and with several European universities.
Dr. Aravena is part of the group of experts who support the IAEA in its projects worldwide. His recent rsearch focuses on studies of groundwater contamination related to agricultural, urban, industrial and mining activities. Dr. Aravena has been involved in numerous studies in Latin America, Canada, Europe and USA related to resource assessment and groundwater contamination. In Chile, Dr. Aravena has worked with consultants such as SRK, hydrogeology GP Consultants and Amphos 21 in studies on water resources in mining areas.
Dr. Aravena has authored and co-authored more than 140 publications in refereed journals, about 60 technical reports and 11 chapters in scientific books. He is the co-editor of the book "Environmental Isotopes in Biodegradation and Bioremediation”, 2009 editors Marjorie C. A. , Höhener , P., Hunkeler , D., Aravena , R. CRC Press.
